StoryJacking: ReWrite the Narrative

Friday, December 11, 2020 at 11:30 AM MT

Presenter: Lyssa deHart, LICSW, MCC

Program Details

Have you ever been derailed listening to your client’s stories, flooded with the surface story, and missed the deeper, often hidden plot line that lies just below the surface? These underlying stories are often the real issues that stop your clients from moving forward. These stories sabotage them and ultimately are the foundation to everything they believe they can or cannot accomplish.

Many coaches focus on “bottom lining” stories and miss the opportunity to help clients unpack some deep beliefs that hinder them. Our stories are the doorway into deeper awareness. Stories come on the spectrum of Snapshot Stories, “I am not good enough.” “I can’t handle this.” “No one cares what I have to say.” All the way to the deeply woven and unconsciously integrated stories that affect the way we look at the world and our place in it.

What would be possible for you and your clients if you could assess the difference between what is interesting and what is important in the stories that they are telling? What might transform in your client’s life if you could hold the space of the internal narrative and help unpack the deeper issues at play? Key Take-Aways 1. How we create meaning and thus stories out of everything we experience 2. How to get curious and help your clients develop awareness of their stories 3. To support your clients in recognizing their internal narrative 4. Locus of Control and how it affects where we focus our attention 5. What role your client is playing in the narrative of their stories 6. What to do when your stories get triggered.
