President’s Message
How Will you Arrive?
August often feels like a month between seasons. Summer is still here, but the pace of fall is beginning to appear on the horizon—new routines, fuller calendars, and renewed attention to the work ahead.
Before we rush into that next season, this may be an opportunity to pause.
As coaches, we understand the value of creating space for our clients to slow down, reflect, and listen more deeply. Yet it can be harder to create that same space for ourselves. We move from one conversation to another, carrying responsibilities, distractions, assumptions, and reactions that can shape how we show up, often without our realizing it.
Mindfulness invites us to notice. Not to empty our minds or eliminate every distraction, but to become more aware of what we are bringing into the moment. That awareness can help us enter our coaching conversations with greater steadiness, curiosity, and openness. It can also help us recognize what we need as human beings as we prepare for a new season.
This month, we are especially pleased to welcome ICF High Country member Christine Lustik, PhD, ACC, to lead Mindful Awareness for Coaches on August 14. Christine brings years of experience as a coach, leadership development specialist, and mindfulness teacher. Her interactive program will allow us to reflect, practice, and explore simple ways to strengthen our presence before, during, and after coaching conversations.
I hope you will join us. This is an opportunity to invest in your own coaching practice and also to learn from and support a fellow member of our High Country community.
As fall approaches, perhaps the question is not simply, “What do I need to accomplish?” but also, “How do I want to be present for what comes next?”
