President’s Message

September carries us back into familiar rhythms. School buses roll again, leaves begin to change, the air cools, and the light shifts. With so much movement around us, it’s a good time to pay closer attention to our individual and collective well-being.

We all know coaching is not therapy, but it is a powerful practice of presence. Sometimes, the simple act of asking, “How are you, really?” becomes an invitation that makes all the difference. Small gestures of care—listening deeply, asking a thoughtful question, noticing what is said and unsaid—can ripple outward in ways we may never fully see. And just as we hold that presence for others, we are invited to ask ourselves: as we offer care and curiosity to clients, how might we extend the same to ourselves?

This season also brings a few chapter updates. We are saying farewell to Jackie Appleby, our virtual assistant, who has been an invaluable support to the board and chapter over the past several years. While we are no longer able to work with her directly, we are deeply grateful for her many contributions and are glad she will continue supporting other ICF chapters with her skills and expertise.

Alongside this farewell, we also want to share that earlier this year we transitioned to a new membership platform. It has not met our needs in the ways we hoped, so we will soon be moving to a system better designed to support both the board and our members. Thank you for your patience as we make this adjustment. More updates will be shared soon.

Here’s to showing up with presence as this season unfolds.

Understanding Your Membership

The Relationship Between ICF Global and ICF High Country

To be a member of ICF High Country, you must be a current member of International Coaching Federation and select ICF High Country as your affiliate chapter. When your ICF Global membership lapses, your chapter membership ends as well.

To avoid interruptions, watch for renewal emails from ICF Global or consider setting your membership to auto-renew.

Your Email Is Your Membership ID

Think of your email address as your membership identifier. ICF Global shares your email with us, and we use it to recognize your membership and communicate with you.

If you need to update your email, make the change in your ICF Global account. The update will carry through to ICF High Country automatically, though it may take a couple of weeks as our roster updates twice per month.

Board Member Spotlight

Kerri Sutey

Vice President, ICF High Country

Kerri Sutey is a leadership and organizational coach and consultant who helps COOs, HR leaders, and senior teams align strategy, design healthy operating rhythms, and lead change without burnout. She is an ICF Associate Certified Coach (ACC) and an ICAgile Certified Expert in Agile and Enterprise Coaching.

Kerri blends coaching, facilitation, and organization design to turn strategy into steady execution. Her clients include Google, Southwest Airlines, IBM, ExxonMobil, and the U.S. Department of Defense. She has been a member of the Forbes Coaches Council since 2024.

Her mantra: Lead. Grow. Thrive.

What drew you to coaching?Early in my career, I was leading large change efforts and repeatedly saw capable, brilliant people get stuck by unclear priorities, tough dynamics, or the pace of change. Coaching gave me a way to help leaders find clarity, grow with intention, and actually enjoy the work again.

A must-see in your state- Montana: Drive the Going-to-the-Sun Road in Glacier National Park. Go early, roll the windows down, and stop for a short hike. You’ll remember it for life.

A recent book that impacted you - Time to Think by Nancy Kline. It reshaped how I listen and reminds us that the quality of our attention determines the quality of others’ thinking.

Your coaching niche- Senior and rising leaders, often COOs and HR leaders navigating organizational change. I blend leadership coaching with organization design so teams can prioritize what matters and communicate progress without burnout.

A 2025 goal

  • Run one cohort of my ICF-approved 10-hour program (done)

  • Expand into two new industries, including higher education

  • Deepen my practice and apply for my PCC in early 2026

Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging Spotlight

DEIB Reflection for September 🍂

As professional coaches, we understand the power of presence, listening, and honoring the whole person. As the season turns, we invite you to reflect:

How are you weaving inclusivity into your coaching this fall?

This question aligns closely with the ICF Core Competencies, particularly embodying a coaching mindset and cultivating trust and safety. Inclusive coaching does not require having all the answers. It asks us to stay curious, notice our assumptions, and hold space for diverse identities and lived experiences.

Whether you are expanding your cultural awareness, exploring new coaching partnerships, or simply slowing down to listen more deeply, every intentional act matters.

Let’s continue to lead with courage and compassion, fostering a profession where every client feels seen, heard, and valued.
